What does resistance mean?

Resistance is resisting (not allowing to continue) electrical current through a conductor.

How many terminals does a fixed resistor have?  

A fixed resistor has two terminals.

How many terminals does a variable resistor have?  

A variable resistor has two or three terminals.

Give two examples of resistors. 

–  Carbon Film Resistors, which use a carbon based material.
–  PTH Resistors use colored bands to tell the resistance value. This       mechanism is very much like the E24 system for marking.
