My Personal Hero
There are many heroes in my life. This includes my friends, my siblings, but especially my parents. Both of my parents are seen as heroes in my mind, and since they both do so much for me and my family, it was extremely difficult to choose only one to write about. So difficult in fact, that I had to think very hard to determine which one I should do.
My mother is a very strong (mentally and physically), beautiful, and passionate woman. In order to homeschool us, she is a stay-at-home mom. However, she is always working hard, whether it is watching videos every day on how to make home-made raw milk butter and sourdough bread (which both of are delicious), or helping us with our school. She is a very fun and loveable mother who is always playing and laughing with us.
My dad is also a true hero as well. Almost every day he drives from city to city and spends hours in other people’s homes selling Renewal by Anderson windows to them. He is very good at his job, but knows that some day he will own his own business doing what he really loves to do. Despite working, he always finds time to be with his family. He is super goofy and always makes us laugh. He is very strong and works out every day, but he is also very motivational and smart. Even though both of my parents are amazing, I want to talk about my father and a few of his recent heroic moves.
First, I will tell you what my dad does when he is not at work. He is really good at every sport I have seen him do. This includes basketball, softball, volleyball, ping pong, and especially football. He can throw a football across a whole football field and over our house. He can also punt it really far.
He is a very talented artist and we are all amazed at what he draws. He doesn’t eat much sugar or unhealthy foods, but his favorite food is chocolate cake, so he eats that sometimes.
He works out, goes for a run, and meditates in his room almost every day, and this makes him a very muscular and strong-minded person. From what I can tell, his favorite saying is “… to help you/me be the best person you/I can be.” You would not think that he is scared of anything, but he is scared of heights (however, he has been growing out of it), and horrified of snakes.
One incredible accomplishment that he did last month took place in a river while we were fishing for my sister’s birthday. We got a double-decker boat with slides going into the water from the top. After about half an hour of sailing on the boat, we stopped about 50 feet away from shore, where the water was approximately 13 feet deep. We went fishing (even though we did not catch anything), and we went off the slides. Dad went with us too, which made it much more fun and it made us feel more safe.
After about an hour of being stopped at this part, we decided to go upriver a little bit longer before leaving. However, we were delayed when my father went to pull up the anchor. He had pulled it up easily just before, but when he went to do it this time, the anchor did not budge! He tried pulling again, harder that time, but he still could not pull it up! Finally, after about ten minutes of backbreaking work, my dad finally was able to pull the anchor up all by himself. By that time, all of us were wondering why the operation was so difficult, but the reason was discovered right then. The anchor had caught onto a rope that was tying two cinder blocks together!!! Also, thick, a seven-foot-long tree branch had gotten trapped in the cluster. Thankfully, Dad was able to pull up the bunch enough so my mother could cut the rope that the anchor was caught onto. We are all so grateful that my father was so diligent in working out every day so that he could pull up the anchor. If he hadn’t, we probably would have been stuck there for hours after that with no food. Also, it was a weekday so hardly any people were on the river. I have no idea what would have happened if Dad had given up or not had even tried to become muscular in the first place.
That crazy story shows how strong my father is, but he is so much more. For example, Dad had not been getting many sales lately, but he kept his chin up and kept working. His co-worker, who was new to the job, was nervous and needed help on a sale, so my dad went with him to the appointment, even though he was not doing well himself. As a result, Dad helped his friend make a 40,000 dollar sale! That was really nice of my father to help someone else even if he was struggling. This was something that most people probably would not have done, and he did it anyway. I hope this motivated him and reminded him that he can do anything, even if things don’t look as he planned at the moment.
In conclusion, my father is a truly amazing person. There are many, many more things that he has done that I would need a whole book to fill. We are all so proud of him for all he has done. Just like he is always right behind us whenever we are struggling, we will always be beside him, pushing him on so he can lead our family and help us to be the best people we can be.
