My Own Knights of the Round Table Adventure

This week I have been reading a book called Idylls of the King by Lord Alfred Tennyson. Idylls of the King is a book made out of a series of poems about King Arthur and the knights of the round table. In this essay, I get to choose one of these knights and tell a story about one of their adventures.

Now Lancelot was not just brave, but smart as well.
He knew that the best way to protect thine beloved
King Arthur was to be sure that no harm must come to the king.
To do this, Lancelot knew he mustn’t trust
Anyone, so he made a secret system designed to intercept
Mail as it was going to be delivered and read it before it
Was to be delivered. Being good friends with one of Camelot’s
Messengers, Lancelot was able to convince him to bring him
Any mail first before it is delivered. Using this system,
Lancelot was able to stop many a crime that were to take
Place, but none could have prepared for what would happen next.

Being finished with work, Lancelot went to check all the
Mail that had been captured on the way. There were four
Letters all together. Lancelot picked them up and read the
First one. “My family, thou hast waiteth long enough. I
Am coming home and will be arriving Saturday in the morning.
Pray that thine son might get better by then” Stated the letter.
Lancelot set the letter down, marking that he would get a
Messenger to take the message to the dear family, whom, by
The look of it, miss their family member so. He took
The next letter and read it. “Mother, England is beautiful
And I hope with all mine heart that thou will love it as much
As I do. Thy children will be delighted to see you soon.
Love thine daughter, Emily.” The next letter said
“Jeremiah, thou hast some good news for thee. Thouest
Must come back home soon. Lancelot set the letter down,
Intending on delivering these letters soon. However, the next
Message was the one that caught Lancelot’s eye “Thou must do
It the night after tomorrow.” The letter said. “From Emil”.

“Whom must this Emil be and what dost thee mean?”
Lancelot wondered. He went to sleep that night thinking and
Awoke early the next morning with the news that more mail was in
His trap. He hastily dressed and went to his office to read the
Mail. There was only one letter that he had crossed this morning,
And Lancelot read it, hoping that it would give more information
On the mysterious letter from the previous night. It did.
“Hast thou got his disguise yet? Thee was supposed to write back
Yesterday. From Emil.” Lancelot read the letter thoughtfully
And remembered that he did not let his friend deliver this message,
For he wanted to know more about it. He knew not why, but he felt
That this Emil did not mean good.

Later that day, Lancelot intersected another letter from Emil
That said: “Since thou will not do the deed, I will do it
Myself, and thouest must note that as soon as I see the king
Dead and leaking blood under thine eyes, I will come for thou
Next. Thy will do it tonight for I am ready.” Lancelot
Dropped the letter, horror filling his body. Someone was
Going to try to kill King Arthur. Thinking quickly, Lancelot
Left and warned all the knights of the round table and Arthur
To be on the watch and together, they devised a plan to stop
The murderer from harming Arthur.

That night, a man in a black cloak somehow slyly and
Stealthily snuck past the alert guards and went to Arthur’s room.
What thou knew not of was that Arthur was secretly awake and
Lancelot and the Other knights of the round table were hiding in
Places all around Arthur’s room, ready to strike.
To the knights’ surprise, the man went over to the
Window and opened it. One by one, 8 men all in black
Cloaks came climbing in and positioned themselves
Around Arthur’s bed, with knives raised. Then the
First man whispered. “One, two, three, g—”. Just then,
One of the men let out a quiet shriek and dropped to the
Ground. Behind him stood Lancelot, with a sword In his hand.
Then he shouted “Now!!!!” and all the knights
From the round table jumped out of their hiding spots
With their swords ready. Arthur also arose and jumped
Onto his bed, with a sword in his hand.

Startled, the assassins drew swords from other their cloaks
Started swinging and attempting to fight the knights.
However, with the knights’ and Arthur’s fighting skills,
It wasn’t long before each of the men were unarmed and were
Being held by the knights. Then Lancelot came up
And asked “Now which of thee go by the name of Emil?”
No one answered, so Lancelot spoke again in a raised voice.
“I said, which one of thee is Emil?!” Then a young
Man held up a healthy-looking arm and pointed to the first man
Who came into the room. The five other men also pointed to
The man. Lancelot slowly walked forward, examining the man.

He was thin, bony, and had big dark eyes.
He was trembling and coward-looking, but had
The cruelest and guiltiest look on his pointy face.
“So thou hast the horrid idea of murdering thy beloved
King Arthur?” questioned Lancelot. Then Emil spoke
In a shrill, hoarse voice, “And someday, I will succeed.
He cruelly grinned at Arthur, who glared back.
“Shame on thou.” said Lancelot, and he turned to the
Young man who pointed to Emil. “And who might thee be?”
“My name is William. Emil captured me a few years ago
And taught me how to kill. Emil has trapped all of us and
Threatened that if we do not do this, he will murder our
Families instead. All but Morcant, who sought out Emil
And asked to do his deed.” “Who is Morcant?” Lancelot
Said, looking around. William pointed to the man on the
Ground whom Lancelot had killed. Then Lancelot spoke
“Very well. Men, take Gerald and Morcant away”
As The knights took the two men away, William apologized
To Arthur and told him that he loved and respected his
King, but made a vow to always protect his family
No matter what was to happen. Arthur replied that
He would have done the same thing for his family as well.

Gerald was put into prison and Morcant’s body was burned.
However, William and the rest of the men were
Allowed to go back to their families. Lancelot was
Rewarded for his cleverness of his message intercepting
System and for his quick thinking. He accepted the reward
Thankfully, but reminded Arthur that he would do
Anything for his king.
