Week 16 Essay
This week I learned about many things, but what I will write about in this essay is the history of Venice. Venice is a beautiful and famous city in Europe that has been around since 421 AD. It influenced many other time periods and cities and many important people came from Venice.
Venice is located in Italy and it is made up of over one hundred small islands. It is a very common place to visit, probably because of its beautiful art, music, roads, and fantastic building designs. Some famous people who came from Venice are Marco Polo and Antonio Vivaldi. It also influenced the Renaissance period with all of its beautiful and amazing culture.
Venice is known for its beauty, artwork, architecture, and music. People have said that in every house there is some kind of music playing or people singing. Venetians also played a major role in creating opera singing. Venice made something called Venetian Gothic Architecture. This was made so that if an architect had an idea, he could build a new building in Venice and try the idea on the building.
However, Venice is most commonly known for its canals or waterways. Instead of roads, Venice uses rivers, and instead of cars, they have gondolas. Gondolas are flat-bottomed boats, rowed with one oar by gondoliers. These gondoliers work all day, acting as taxi-drivers, transporting people all over the town.
Annually, in Venice, there is a party called the Carnival of Venice. It happens around the same time as the Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans, and it is a mask festival. Everyone wears masks and parties on this day. There is even a competition where the judges choose who has the most beautiful mask.
As you can see, Venice is an extraordinary city that is filled with lots of creativity, style, beauty and amazing history. It is where many styles, people, ideas, and time periods originated from. I would love to visit Venice someday, because it is definitely worth seeing.
