Week 5 Essay

          In History this week, I learned about Muslims and the religion of Islam. It is very important to learn about other religions even if you don’t believe the same or agree with them. So, I will be writing about why it is important to learn about other religions.

          Learning about different religions, for example Islam, is very important and useful for many reasons. One reason is because it is respectful to people of other religions instead of not bothering. They probably do not feel that great when someone who does not believe in the same thing will not even bother or care to learn that person’s religion.

          Another reason is a different civilization’s history. We all live in one world, and other places interact with each other. It is difficult to learn about one place’s culture and religion when you do not know about other civilizations’ religion and culture. You should still learn about other religions even if they do not have anything to do with what you are learning about.

          Still another reason is if you know someone who believes in something else. A perfect example is Islam. You will understand them and their family better when you understand their religion. For example, you will understand when they cannot be with you for five parts of the day because they are praying. Or when they will not eat for a month because of the fast of Ramadan. You will also understand when they are gone for a time and they were not on vacation, they were doing the Islamic pilgrimage, better known as the Hajj.

          A fourth reason is that it is important if you ever visit one of these places you will better understand the culture and religion. It can be very awkward to be in a place where you do not know the religion. It can be very confusing sometimes.

          As you can see, there are many reasons why you should study different religions all over the world. It will help you understand the people better, it can help you with history, and it will probably make other people feel better too. I think it is so interesting to learn about another religion, and you should too.
