What are three signs of heat stroke?
-Rapid rising temperature
-Not sweating
-Can go unconscious
What are three signs of hypothermia?
-Very Cold (and possibly wet)
-Can be conscious or unconscious
-May be frostbite or frost nip
What are the primary steps to treating heat stroke?
-Get patient out of the heat (if possible)
-Call emergency medical services or 9-1-1
-Do anything you can to cool the person down (use a hose, wet towel, etc.) until medical service arrives
What are the primary steps to treating hypothermia
-Get person out of the water (if in it, which is usually the case)
-Check for responsiveness
-Remove wet clothes
-Check for frostbite or frost nip (if there, slowly warm the hands or feet)
-Put on a heat-reflective blanket, over and under person
-Put on normal blanket over reflective blanket
(DON’T WARM THEM IMMEDIATELY!)
